Frankenstein's Monster - A Poem by Me

A birth from death
With a single breath
The newborn man has left;
His idle senses awaken
Sounds, smells and sights
The giant man is forsaken
Into the darkness of the night

A fallen angel, in the depths of hellfire
Rejected by man, he is a slave to desire
The desire to be, to learn, to love
The wretched man will never see the heavens above

Bleak skies make cold nights that darken the heart
The king has killed his son, his worthless work of art
The monster is awakened from the slumbers of sin
Wreaking havoc among the innocent, from the stroke of his skin

Who can love a man born from the unhallowed wombs of the grave?
Who can save a life, when there’s no one left to save?
A man carved from rotten wood, crumbling on the inside
He is searched, he is hunted, he is alone with nowhere to hide

Ashes to embers, no one will remember
Who this monster really was
A benevolent, eager fellow
Seeking acceptance and a cause

A cause to live, a cause to die
A cause to make one laugh or cry
He had none, he was done
The created man was the only one

And so he lives on, as a con
Pretending to be the being he’s not
When he dies, all the lies
Will lie with his body to rot
